"What's wrong with me? Why couldn't I fight back? I... I just couldn't bring myself to hit him. Why do I feel like this? I can't look away, there's just something about him. Is this what love feels like? But everybody knows, boys are supposed to like girls, so why does he make me feel this way? What's wrong with me?"
Flashback to a time period approximately equivalent to the mid 1960's. An 18 year old Sebastian begins to question his sexuality. His first real crush was a rather unfortunate one. Not only was the guy straight, he also played for Sebastian's junior hockey team's arch rivals, who they play 12 times a season. This scene is after one such game. Sebastian has changed out of his gear, and is just sitting and thinking. During the game, the above mentioned (and unnamed) player challenged Sebastian to fight. Backing out of a fight would look really bad, so Sebastian dropped his gloves, even though he didn't really want to. He just couldn't bring himself to fight back, even though he knew he should. Knew that if it were anybody else, he'd be perfectly capable of holding his own in the fight. And it doesn't help that in the town he came from, homosexuality was pretty much not talked about. He's confused. He knows how he feels, but he also knows that it's not how he was told that he should feel.

And onto the actual drawing/coloring. The background is a little washed out. The scanner ate it. I tried to salvage as much as I could. It looks better IRL. Also, lets say that Canids' facial fur is thin enough that you actually would be able to see the bruise from getting punched in the eye. I know that bruises aren't usually visible through fur. I just had to use it to help get a point across. I tried to make his face rounder, his muzzle shorter, to imply youth. Also, he hasn't grown his beard yet.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
